God Save the Queen! (Seriously).

According to the BBC, the Queen and her laughably extended Royal Family cost the British taxpayer 62p per person in the last financial year. People who know me may well naturally take a step backwards at this point expecting me to explode: a monarchist I ain’t.

Well, I say unto them:

DEAL OF THE CENTURY!

Let’s face it, if I wasn’t whinging about the monarchy what else would I fill my day with? Charity work? Social activities? Conversation?!

62p a year provides us with endless entertainment and outrage. Our regular doses of Prince Philip’s patented racism is surely worth £1 per annum at the very least! And who can forget Harry in a Nazi Uniform? Or Prince Charles and his random bandwagon jumping? And the endless stream of half-woman / half-horse creatures in tiaras?

The overall cost for the war in Iraq is looking to cost the Coalition over a Trillion dollars. it really doesn’t seem worth getting upset about spending a few million keeping the family of an increasingly irrelevant old lady in ski holidays and fox-skin coats.

    Wait… there’s a coalition?

Curse you Perkins and your campaign against lazy journalism. I admit that I couldn’t find any information about the cost to the UK of the war in Iraq (most up-to-date figure I found was ‘about £5.1 Billion’ as of September 2005), and so used a term that mostly lost relevance around 2003.

It’s a great shame that we don’t have anything as succinct and stark as this in the UK:

Here’s an idea! Why not make it more interesting by making the Royal family play for their yearly budget on a special edition of Deal or No Deal.

Will they end up on a minimum wage for a year, or will they live like the proverbial Kings they are.

    Dirty germans!!*

*Please note that I dont consider the German nation as a whole “dirty”! I spent a week in Munich and found them a thoroughly nice bunch of people.
