Odd Sods
Wednesday, August 30th, 2006A few things that need saying but don’t warrant their own post:

* So John Mark Kerr didn’t kill JonBenét. Frankly, I was suspicious when his ex-wife said ‘actually, he was with me that night’.

* Doesn’t it seem ridiculously wrong that for every month I work, I don’t see almost a quarter of my wage? That’s right - I (and probably you) work for a week for free to pay National Insurance and the Taxman. Now, I’m happy enough to pay that money for health care and education, but I kinda resent my hard work going towards pointing big guns at (mostly) innocent women and children in places like Afghanistan and Iraq. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to ‘opt out’ and only pay tax towards pleasant, fluffy things that you’re not morally opposed to? (These people think so too).

* Why is it that we only eat Christmas Pudding and Mince Pies at Christmas? Probably because both food-stuffs are virtually inedible. So let’s drop the charade! No-one actually enjoys that crap.

* Since Eddie Guerrero dropped dead after his heart gave out whilst brushing his teeth, a lot of wrestlers have had to take time off to deal with ‘Wellness Issues’ (read ‘Steroid / Painkiller abuse’). For years the deaths of talented young wrestlers such as Rick Rude, The British Bulldog, Mr Perfect, Road Warrior Hawk, The Big Boss Man et al had been glossed over. However, Eddie’s name was too prominent to ignore and the WWE have had to act decisively. This has led to stringent drug testing and a glut of suspensions in recent months. Things came to a head over the weekend when six-time champion Kurt Angle (to illustrate how huge this is, Hulk Hogan is also a six-time champ) was released due to ‘personal issues’.
People within the industry seem to know the truth, though - Angle was addicted to painkillers, broken down and in constant agony. His neck problems were such that he was one bad bump away from paralysis or death. WWE ultimately made the right decision - not for business, but to save a man’s life, and they should be applauded for this.

* Wow, Ipswich Town looked good against QPR on Friday night. A masterful 3-1 away victory belied dismal early-season form and actually gave some hope for the future. Just don’t mess it up against Southampton next Saturday!
For the moment, that is all.
