Inside Thirty Years the Nukes are Gonna be Flyin’ Like Maybugs

I always thought it was a bit of a silly twist in Watchmen when Dr. Manhattan sets up his Massive Space Castle™ slap-bang in the middle of a Martian crater, which turns out to bear an uncanny resemblance to the smiley face motif that has cropped up throughout the comic book.

Turns out the smiley face crater actually exists on Mars:

Given Alan Moore’s meticulous attention to detail in all his work I shouldn’t be surprised… but I still consider this seven shades of cool.

Urge to re-read Watchmen, rising. I’ll console myself with the extended ‘ultimate’ director’s cut of the movie, out before Xmas in a shop near YOU.

Apparently he’s very knowledgable about astronomy thanks to his uncle.

As in Patrick Moore? The guy who is in no way related to Alan Moore?

Oh yes well we’re all very smug about it now aren’t we? Just because I trusted Alan Moore and fell for it you feel like that gives you some kind of moral superiority.
