I Put Some Water in Charlie’s Hat

Always interesting reading the Wikitravel article about your home town. The opening paragraph of the article on Ipswich includes:

It’s former reputation of being a depressing, crime-ridden industrial backwater is slowly disappearing…

 Other choice quotes include:

walking at night is not so fun - walking beyond the town centre usually involves passing some unpleasant areas and walking through the public underpasses that cross the ‘inner ring’ or along by the river can sometimes be unsafe

Avoid getting into confrontations, particularly in bars, as things get a bit nasty. There are several no-go areas at night…

Avoid using Derby Road train station at night as it’s poorly lit, isolated and unstaffed…

There’s a strong rivalry between Ipswich Town FC and Norwich City FC - on match days avoid wearing football colours or saying things that may provoke a football-related confrontation.

I’m not saying the quotations are wrong, just that it’s interesting to see how your home town is perceived by the outside world…

  1. JC Says:

Hey at least you got something. For Aylesbury it has nothing listed under the things to see section and the things to do section it only says this

    Do
Visit Butler’s Cross on a sunny day to see a view of the town from a hill

However this is all strangly accurate about Aylesbury….
